ThanksUSA is Making a Difference!
What a terrific concept and application of a dream for a charity. ThanksUSA is an acronym for “Treasure Hunt Aiding Needs of Kids and Spouses of those serving the United States of America.” It began as an idea of two young sisters- Rachel and Kelsi. While working with their school teacher, their dream turned into a dual-focus program of treasure hunts and education scholarships for military members and families. ThanksUSA.org is now a full-fledged non-profit 501(c)(3) foundation incorporated in Washington D.C. in 2005, and dedicated to providing college, technical and vocational school scholarships for the children and spouses of military members. One of the major focuses of ThanksUSA is the annual treasure hunt. “TH2″ for Treasure Hunt Two is focused on American History and is “designed to celebrate American and raise public and private scholarship funds for children and spouses of the troops.” The theme of 2007 TH2 is “Pillars of Democracy” that explores the history of many U.S. states with clues, puzzles and other games in an online interactive format that kids will enjoy. TH2 began February 23 and will continue until September 4th, 2007. Here is a Message from Teachers for how Treasure Hunt Two can be incorporated in the classroom. There are wonderful prizes available to participants including iPods, phones, cameras and even computers! People, and children, across the U.S. are making a difference each day with this program… take a look at the ThanksUSA.org web site and see how you can make a difference… every little bit helps! To date, over 1013 scholarships worth over $3.5 million dollars have been awarded.
