What would happen to the worlds poor if the Catholic Church stopped giving to Charity?

It is a fact that the Catholic Church gives more to Charity than any other Nation (including the USA) on earth. They give more to Charity than all the Protestant denominations combined.

So if all the wishes of the Atheists and Protestants came true and the Catholic Church no longer existed who could help all the people the Catholics now help in every nation on earth?

  1. I would imagine the government would have to take over. If the government won’t do it, then a rebelion is called for untill they find one that does. They could also do what the communists did when they tookover Russia. They lived on the churches treasures for many years, even got to the point where they got sputnik up as the first orbiting craft.

  2. You can be charitable and not be religious, so if they’re giving purely because they think they’re forced to by god then that makes it hollow and really sad.

In other words, the people would continue to give if it is a genuine desire to help the downtrodden.

  3. Bill Gates and Warren Buffett are atheists and they pledged to give billions to charities. In many secular countries in the East, atheists donate much more than Christians. Atheists do not set up any “atheist organisation” to donate, but they donated generously whenever they can for victims of natural disasters, and for those needy. Hence, as non-organised group and not under any collective umbrella of charity organisation, such charity bodies do not aim to attract attention nor claim credit for being charity. The act of charity is its sole purpose – not the self promotion nor the credit for attention.

  4. CC: “We’ll feed your poor as long as you give us your little boys to bugger.”

  5. What would happen if all who give to the church used that money to help others instead? If all who attended church services used that time for helping others?

  6. If Catholic Church stops giving to Charity to the Poor.
( Sayings = Charity given is not to be told or broad cased )
Nobody Feeds Nobody, It’s Almighty God who feeds every leaving creature of Creation.
Almighty God will arrange with some other will take over religion,
Almighty God cares more of poor people. even they are Almighty God Creation.
Please Catholic Church do not worry.

  7. Trust Jesus, it won’t happen. The source of the multi-billion charity are the 1.2 billion catholics, the real Body of Christ. The Body of Christ is here to stay and to give: the gates of hell WILL NOT prevail and coming from the very mouth of Jesus.
You are assuming the 1.2b will disappear; how could it be?? The CC has survived all challenges of the dark ages since day 1 and even stronger at these modern times. We CC should remember, the 1.2 billion will sustain the poor and needy of these world as we love and obey Jesus.

  8. Pledging to give to the poor and actually giving to the poor as the Church does as well as working with them, are two different things. I wonder how many make pledges to PBS during those pledge drives and don’t actually go through with it.

After what the Red Cross did with the money for Katrina victims, I only give my donations to the relief agencies that work with the Church. That money gets to the victims.

  9. Since the Catholic Church is the world’s largest private charity /social service provider the results would be dire

  10. Crisis. There may be a lot of well wishers out there but they ain’t no Mother Theresa!

  11. Let us take a look at history.

During the years after King Henry VIII throw the Catholic Church out of England and closed all of the abbeys and monasteries, thousands of poor people previously supported by the Catholic Church died of starvation, lack of housing, and lack of medical care.

    With love in Christ.
